As quoted by Yahoo news, India as a country produces 20 lakh engineer’s every year. This is a huge amount in comparison to the output level of the other countries. We all celebrate the day of 15th September every year as the engineer’s Day which is also the birthday of a renowned engineer from India known as Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
Sir Visvesvaraya was born in a remote village in the beautiful state of Karnataka called as Muddenahalli. He lost his father when he was 15 and then shifted with his mother Venkatalakshamma to Bangalore to his maternal uncle’s place. There he was admitted to Wesleyan Mission High School and then he went to Pune, College of Science and completed his Engineering in Civil.
The block system of irrigation designed by Visvesvaraya is a great achievement which was designed and developed at the instance of President of Indian Irrigation Commission. There he came in touch with Mahadeo Govind Ranade, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
After this achievement, Sir Visvesvaraya added one more feather to his hat by designing a patented system of automatic gates to control the floods in the water reservoir, which were first deployed at Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune. After a lot more such achievements, Sir Visvesvaraya served as the Diwan of Mysore.
The achievements that he got in the field of engineering and the upsteps that he took in his life are immeasurable. For these achievements, Indian government honored him with India’s highest honor, the Bharat Ratna in 1955.
Every year in India the day of 15th September is celebrated as the engineer’s day with a particular theme. The theme for the engineer’s day 2016, is Skill Development for Young engineer’s to Reform the Core Sector: Vision 2025.
